We speak to another of our copywriters and qualified journalist Edd from the Midlands to find out a little bit more about how he got into copywriting and what he gets up to in his spare time.
Tell us a little bit about you…
I’m Edd and I’m a 22-year-old Freelance Marketeer from Cannock, Staffordshire. After qualifying as a journalist at the University of Sheffield in 2018, I decided that my creative skillset and general personality, for that matter, was much more suited to the wonderful world of marketing, and I haven’t looked backed since. Within weeks of my graduation, I landed my first job as a Creative Marketing Assistant at a school trust located on the outskirts of Birmingham. After a year of producing engaging marketing materials for the trust and its schools, I decided that I wanted to get a taste of real agency life, so I embarked on finding the next step in my career. At the end of 2019, I secured a Digital Marketing Executive position at a small, but highly respected, marketing agency in Birmingham. In this role, my day-to-day tasks involved producing captivating written, social and visual content for a wide range of clients. I was sadly made redundant from this position in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Although many viewed this as a major setback for me and my career, I decided to take this opportunity to propel my understanding of the industry to another level. In tandem with working at Tesco, I have now launched my own freelance marketing venture and I’m very excited to be working alongside Mitchel and the Copy Generators team.
What do you get up to in your spare time?
I’m a huge sports fan so the majority of my spare time is made up of watching, playing and talking about sports. In addition to this, I’m also a bit of a fitness freak, so if I’m not in the gym you’ll most likely find me out running somewhere. Away from exercise-related interests, I love to read books about business, marketing and success stories, and I’m also guilty of a good Netflix binge from time-to-time.
But who’s not, eh?
What got you into copywriting & what do you enjoy about it?
It sounds rather cliche, but my passion for writing stretches right back to my school days. From a young age, English was always my strongest suit and a subject that I deeply enjoyed. As a result of this, I knew that I needed to find a career that allowed me to use this passion to its fullest extent. That’s what initially drew me to journalism and has since fuelled my curiosity for copywriting and marketing as a whole. I first got into copywriting at the age of 14 when I started writing blogs for a football news site. By 16, I was running and producing regular content for my own fanzine-style site, whilst heading up a team of 20+ copywriters. Since then, copywriting has remained a huge part of my marketing toolkit, both in my previous and current roles.
What do you enjoy about working with Copy Generators?
I enjoy working with Copy Generators for several reasons. From teaming up with a fantastic group of copywriting experts to having the freedom to work on longer-form pieces of content, there are many things which make me grateful that I’ve been granted an opportunity to get on-board this exciting venture. Additionally, Mitchel is a brilliant marketing mind, who has an incredible understanding of what it takes for brands to succeed, and I’m delighted to be working under his guidance and leadership.
